Day3 What it's like to live aboard ship!

Day 3 began with muster; Muster is basically role call on your unit. Every single person's name is called to verify that you are alive. Muster location for the PACU changed, and the time changed as well. All the details could be found on the intranet. Should I mention now that volunteers had no access to the intranet? It could make finding muster a bit of a challenge. If you came late to muster, meaning less than 15 minutes early you could be requested to stand in "Loser's lane". So after muster, I went to ship board orientation. Certain things were stressed at orientation....don't eat off the ship, what you could and could not put in the toilet (this is a very old ship that easily gets indigestion), what to recycle where and how to take a "navy shower" all topics for later blogs.
Orientation included a tour. There are only 2 decks (not floors) aboard the USNS Comfort that will take you from the bow of the ship (front) to the stern (back). Other than that getting from point A to point B is a little bit like running a vertical maze. Port is the left side of the ship if you are facing the bow and starboard the right. Fortunately, we seldom used port and starboard to find direction. You could roam the ship by way of ramps, and multiple stairwells and if you were really brave ladder wells through the engine room.
Living aboard ship was like a floating in a tin can. Everything made a sound and every sound was bounced off multiple walls. The cacophony of noise could be overwhelming.
Immediately following orientation I went to work in the PACU. So check out some of my pictures from the ship interior etc. Welcome aboard.
